One third of Washington's birds are currently species of special concern, and Seattle Audubon is working to protect these birds and the habitat that they depend upon. We work closely with concerned citizens, local decision-makers, and like-minded organizations to promote environmentally sound public policy and private practices that protect habitat for birds and nature.

We are currently focusing our efforts on the birds of our region whose habitats are particularly at risk. Northern Spotted Owls  are just one of the species in Washington State experiencing dramatic population declines.  Spotted Owls have declined by approximately 50% in Washington in the last decade alone and yet their habitat - old-growth forest habitat - is still being logged by large corporate logging companies.  To learn more about the habitat usage, habitat loss and conservation of Spotted Owls, please visit our Spotted Owl Resource Center.
