Celebrating 100 Years

A Century of Seattle Audubon

Founded in 1916, the oldest environmental organization in Washington, Seattle Audubon Society has continually worked for the protection of birds, as well as the restoration and preservation our shared environment. These years of experience have never been more important than today, as the growth in our region stresses many habitats and their avian residents. Seattle Audubon’s continued commitment to habitat conservation, environmental education, and scientific study have propelled into the 21st century as a regional environmental leader.

Bird-centered conservation

Stopping backroom deals with oil companies that threaten Puget Sound, challenging delays in federally-mandated protection of the endangered birds across Washington, and defending essential shorebird habitat in the City of Seattle – birds and their habitats across our service area face these and other threats every day. Fortunately, the members and staff of Seattle Audubon stand ready to respond.

Inspiring the next generation for generations

Since its inception in the early 1900s, Seattle Audubon has sought to teach children to love and protect birds. In these days of rapid technological advancement and urban expansion, our environmental education programs are even more important. Birds are the perfect way to ignite curiosity in kids of all ages and provide the basis for future STEM and nature learning.

Who made the last 100 years possible?

Over 5,000 households have made it possible for Seattle Audubon to protect the birds and nature of our beautiful region. Without them, this wouldn’t have been possible, from the Puget Sound shoreline to the arid scrubland east of the Cascades.
